Bike Drive, Repair, & Release

bike drive

We're partnering with Earth Day Austin, Ghisallo Cycling Initiative, Bike Austin, and Yellow Bike Project to collect, repair, and redistribute bikes for young people in our community. Bikes will be distributed during the Earth Day ATX event Saturday, April 21. Winners of the on-site drawing will receive a new-to-them bike, a new helmet, proper bike and helmet fittings, safety training, and the opportunity to test their new wheels in a bike rodeo hosted by Ghisallo Cycling Initiative.

Last year, thanks to the generosity of fellow Austinites, more than 60 bikes were repaired and given to those in need. Your donation to the bike drive could help someone discover the joys of cycling and create a positive impact to last a lifetime.

How to Donate a Bike

Drop off your outgrown/underutilized/broken bicycle(s) of any size at any one of our five Bicycle Sport Shop locations and/or the Austin Yellow Bike Project center in East Austin now through March 31st. Yellow Bike Project volunteers and mechanics will make sure the bikes are in complete working order. To volunteer to repair bikes, visit austinyellowbike.org.

How to Win a Bike

If you have a child or are a student in need of a bicycle, register for the drawing that will be taking place at 3 PM at the Yellow Bike Project booth during the Earth Day festival for dozens of free bikes. Winners of the on-site drawing will receive a new-to-them bike, a new helmet, proper bike and helmet fittings, and safety training.

Earth Day ATX

Join the festivities of Earth Day ATX on Saturday, April 21 from 12-7 PM at Huston-Tillotson University. This zero waste event is open to all who want to discover opportunities to lower their carbon footprint, conserve, recycle, and upcycle. Be sure to visit us at the Bicycle Sport Shop tent to test ride an electric bike and get first-hand experience on what an e-bike can do for you.
